About Us

Urquidez Family Tree was founded to identify as many Urquidez family members as possible of the Jose Dionisio Urquidez and Juana Gertrudez Bautista Estrada family.   Loving family research from several distant relatives has documented proof that our ancestor,  Jose Dionisio Urquidez, was a full-blooded Native American from an unidentified Native American Tribe.   

DNA tests from several family members have confirmed the high percentage of Native American blood, which comes from the male side or officially from Jose Dionisio Urquidez.   

The last name of Urquidez that we carry is not the name Jose Dionicio Urquidez was born with.   This name was either given to him at baptism by a person named Urquidez or was adopted by Jose Dionicio of his own free will.   Jose Dionicio could have been an Indian peon who was given the last name of Urquidez by the hacienda owner, similar to how American blacks were given the last name of the plantation owner.  Until more research of Spanish colonial records provides us with the source of the person who gave us the last name of Urquidez, this is the unique last name we use to identify ourselves.  

This means our last name is Spanish in origin, but we have no Spanish blood from our great-grandfather's side.  We are ancestors of a Native American man.  Other Urquidezes exist.  Some are from Spain itself.   Some, like the famous Benny the Jet (Urquidez), have our last name, but we are not related to anyone from Spain through our great-grandfather's side.  

One man and his wife started our Urquidez family tree.  We have been able to piece together many parts and branches of the tree, beginning with Jose Dionisio Urquidez.    We have put in many hours of research and have at least five family members actively putting the family tree together.
