DNA TESTING RESULTS

Before I give you the results of my DNA testing I would like to preface this with one joke the shows the difference between personal beliefs and reality.

Man is dying and he calls his wife to his side.   He asks her a question and since she knows her husband is dying she knows that he will keep the secret to his grave.   They have five children but the last child is just plain ugly.   The first four are good looking,  intelligent, physically stout and just beautiful children but the last one just stands out as different.   On his death bed he asks her to please tell him if the last child is his.  The child is so ugly it couldn't be his he tells her.   She looks at him and realizing that he was really dying she whispers in his ear  "that last child was the ONLY child that was yours".

The Urquidez that I know and that I have talked to all really believe we come from some part of Spain and some have even mentioned they have found our last name in Portugal.    Some of the Urquidezes have even mentioned that the last name sounds Italian.    Let us dream on.    We all have illusions we are European.

The DNA on myself an Urquidez was tested by the National Geographic Genographic Project in 2005.  The official DNA results read as the following:

CERTIFICATE OF Y-CHROMOSOME DNA TESTING

In recognition of your participation in the Genographic Project, we hereby certify that

HAPLOGROUP Q (M242)

==============================

What does this mean?   Haplogroup Q (242) only belongs to Native Amercians.

Our ancestor - Dionicio Urquidez was a Native Amercian.  What tribe - who knows.

He had a European last name but was a Native American (Indian).

The testing was done by the most sophisticated and prestigious scientific group possible - National Geographic and the results arrived Dec,. 2005.   National Geographic utiliized the computer services of one of  the most prestigious computer company in the nation - IBM.    The results were professional looking and they were paid for.  I have the written results and will gladly email them as pdf format to any Urquidez that so wishes to see them.   The DNA testing was of the Y chromosome which belongs to the male of the family tree.   I was not adopted,  my father was not adopted and his father and great grandfather were not adopted.   The y chromosone testing would put us as Native American all the way back to the first Urquidez.

Can this be true?    Are we Native American versus Spanish in origin.

Spain was an isolated peninsula that allowed its people to be homoginous and uniform in its racial and facial qualities.   The majority of Spaniards have two distingushing racial features  1)  small ears    2)  big foreheads.     This can be confirmed by viewing any Spanish website.   I am enclosing two Spanich websites where you can view this distinctive racial feature.

Once you see the distinct Spansih features  small ears and big forehead it will change your perception of how you see a Hispanic forever.   You will look at a Hispanic at a party and you will first see his ears and immediately tell if he or she is Spanish or of Spanish blood.    If the ear is large you will know that he is not of Spanish blood with all probability.

The Native American racial and facial characteristics on the other hand I have found to be the following:  1) big ears   2) large nose  3) flat bottoms  - no back - no buttocks.    Not to mention the straight black hair.   This is what I see in me and my current Urquidez family - large ears and large noses.   No Spanish features.

Now there is an interesting question.  My father,  Alejandro Urquides Sr. had waivy hair.    Why?   Because he had the Fierro as his mother.   Fierro is a Sephardic Jewish last name and what characterizes the Jewish Mediteranian look is wavy or curly hair.  A lot of Amercian Jews have curly or wavy hair.    The last names Fierro and Gutierrez (for example) are listed in the following Sephardic Jewish website to prove that these last names are pure Jewish in nature.    The website points to the fact that a census was made in 1492 of all Jewish surnames in Spain and the last names Fierro and Gutierrez were part of the Jewish community. http://www.sephardim.co/   I noticed that some of my cousins have beautiful wavy or curly hair.   These would be Rick Urquidez and Daniel Urquidez Jr.   But this they pick up from their mothers the same my father picked up his wavy hair from his mother Sofia Fierro.

We are Native American with a European last name.   Urquidez is a very real Spanish last name with its own coat of arms and history.   But we are not european.   There are other branches of the Urquidez last name - some in California and some in Arizona and their ancestor might be the real McCoy - from Spain.   We are not.

There is one additional point to consider.   The Basques are Celts and truly Spanish per se.   The do not necessarily conform to the same racial or facial features of other "Spanish"  people.   More investigation has to be done on the Basques and their DNA.   The ideal would be to have an Urquike from Marquina to volunteer for his DNA for examination.    Could we trace our DNA to that family in Marquina?     It is worth the effort.
